Did P3PWD Party-list nominee Rowena Guanzon just start a no-rice diet? An X (formerly Twitter) post from the former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner on Friday, Aug. 4  showed her enjoying a fine bowl of Batangas style goto, but with no plate of "kanin" in sight. Guanzon's caption provided an explanation as to why she went rice-less with the meal. "Goto na walang kanin para tipid.mahal ang bigas e (Goto without rice save me money. Rice is expensive)," said the proud "kakampink". Rice is the staple food of Filipinos. Last month, retail prices of rice in Metro Manila ranged from P42 per kilo (local regular milled rice) to P60 per kilo (special rice), according to figures from the Department of Agriculture (DA). In his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) last July 24, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. touted the current inflation slow-down. “Inflation rate is moving in the right direction. From 8.7 percent in January, our inflation rate, inspite of all the difficulties, we are transforming the economy. We are stabilizing the prices of all critical commodities,” Marcos said.
