CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela – Fisherfolk from different municipalities of Isabela participated in the Provincial Fisherfolk Assembly to increase their knowledge on fisheries production. Organized by the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordinating Division, the assembly was held at the Department of Agriculture’s Cagayan Valley Research Center in this city on Wednesday, June 7. The activity was aimed at boosting the fisheries production in the region by motivating the fisherfolk and potential fish farming enthusiasts to engage in aquaculture. The organizers said aquaculture is a remunerative source of income and alternative livelihood. Participants were taught of the importance of good aquaculture practices as provided in the country’s GAqP Manual to guarantee the quality of fish for human consumption. Some important tips in fish farming were also discussed during the activity. Among the partner-agencies in the program are Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC), the Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Credit Policy Council (DA-ACPC), and the Landbank of the Philippines (LBP). Also discussed during the activity were programs on insurance and loan opportunities for fisherfolks.
