Classes in all levels in both private and public schools in Malabon City were suspended by the local government on Tuesday, May 16, due to flooding caused by heavy rains in the city. According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Association (PAG-ASA), cloudy skies and rains experienced in Metro Manila and some neighboring provinces were caused by the southwesterly surface wind flow and localized thunderstorms. Residents were reminded to be careful while on the roads and check the city’s Facebook page for announcements. Emergency contact numbers were also posted on the city's Facebook page. In Valenzuela City, the local government deployed Libreng Sakay trucks along MacArthur Highway to ferry stranded passengers affected by the rain showers. As of 8:40 a.m., some roads in the city were experiencing light to heavy traffic due to flash floods, the local government said.
