A Filipino store clerk was beaten to death after trying to stop a group of teenagers from shoplifting in Los Angeles, United States last Thursday, Oct. 6.

Steven Reyes, 69, was working at a liquor store on East Avenue 40 on Thursday, when he tried to stop four teenagers from stealing a case of beer, according to a report from Fox News.

One of the four suspects then hit Reyes over the head with a scooter.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help cover the costs of funeral expenses and help his family.

“He is a son, a father, a brother, a good friend, and a hard worker. Steven had a loving heart and cared for everyone and always made sure that his family was safe,” wrote Nelle Reyes, the victim’s daughter.
