Metro Manila and several areas in western Luzon may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms within the next 24 hours because of the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, May 22.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said that cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may occur in Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province.

It warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy monsoon rains.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to stay vigilant as severe thunderstorms may trigger flash floods or landslides, especially in vulnerable areas.
