A more calm and less tense atmosphere at President Duterte’s Talk to the People on Monday night, Feb. 14, 2022, could be an indication that the worst is over as far as the most recent surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is concerned.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III reported that the country and Metro Manila were back at low-risk COVID-19 level; vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. disclosed that the vaccination program is chugging along at the adult, 12-to 17-year-old, and five-to 11 year-old levels; and testing czar Vince Dizon told Duterte that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on the Management of Emerging and Infectious Diseases (MEID) was already drafting a “road map” that would guide the Philippines in its journey to a “new normal”.

And for all these, Duterte thanked Duque, Galvez, and Dizon, as well as IATF Head Delfin Lorenzana and Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano, for a job well done, and told them that the Filipino people will remember what they did for the nation in this time of crisis.

With less restrictions, Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat also reported that over 7,000 foreigners have arrived in the country that could jumpstart the tourism industry long-stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

These are among the top stories this Tuesday morning, Feb. 15, 2022.
