Happy New Year to all!

Year 2022 starts with a report about Alert Level 3 to be implemented in Metro Manila from Jan. 3 to Jan. 15. This was announced by Palace spokesperson Karlo Nograles New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, as the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections continued to drastically rise the last three days, and with more detection of the dreaded Omicron variant reported by the Department of Health (DOH).

On a good note, National Task Force (NTF) on COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. disclosed that over 50 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, further improving the country’s defense against any more infections brought by the Omicron variant.

Meanwhile, as of Friday night, the number of firecracker victims rose to 30, and this figure is expected to go up as the New Year revelry hits its peak at midnight.

These are among the top stories on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2021.
