At least eight people died while several others were seriously injured when the delivery truck they were riding in figured in an accident in Balingasag town of Misamis Oriental, a report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City disclosed on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Based on the result of the investigation, the truck loaded with passengers heading to a resort in Langonlong town lost its brakes and resulted in the vehicle crashing into the roadside when the driver lost control of the steering wheel. The strong impact inflicted serious injuries on the passengers.

The incident happened along the national highway portion of Barangay Baliwagan at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

Eight of the victims died on the spot while local rescue teams had to rescue other passengers who were either trapped or thrown away.

It was learned that some of the victims are workers while some are families who were supposed to go to a resort. They came from Claveria town.
