The nine-day “Simbang Gabi” (dawn Mass) nationwide was generally peaceful and orderly, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.
PNP chief Police Gen. Debold Sinas said that their security and public safety preparations paid off as the faithful came in droves to observe the Catholic tradition with no untoward incidents reported.
“We are grateful to the local government and church authorities for taking the lead in implementing public health guidelines and protocols during the ‘Misa de Gallo.’ We have been hopeful that our people would be quite conscious that the minimum health protocols were being followed well,” he said.
Sinas assured the public that the entire 221,000-strong police force remains on full alert status throughout the holiday season until the New Year.
